Sophie Démare-Lafont is Professor of legal history at the University Panthéon-Assas and Directeur d’études at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, PSL.
She specialized in Ancient Near Eastern law (Mesopotamia and Bible) and wrote her PhD on Criminal law of Women in the Ancient Near East. Her recent work addresses several issues regarding the Syrian kingdom of Emar in the 13th century BCE.
She is also the President of the Société d’histoire du droit.
