EXECUTIVE PROGRAM 2020
PRELAUNCH OF UNIVERSITY DEGREE:
DATA PRIVACY LAWS AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Friday 15th May 2020
From 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm
INSEAD / 1, Ayer Rajah Avenue / Singapore 138676
This course gives an overview of the two main areas that the Data Privacy Laws and New Technologies program of Sorbonne-Assas International Law School will cover.
The advent of the GDPR in Europe has been an important event in the field of personal data protection. Not only does it constitute a modern, comprehensive and carefully crafted law on the topic but it also unifies the applicable principles on data protection throughout the European Union. Understanding those principles is all the more important that the GDPR applies not only to organizations established in the Union but also to those established outsides of the Union whenever they process data of individuals in the European Union. Those organizations are more specifically required to abide to the GDPR whenever their data processing activities are related to the offering of goods or services to individuals in the EU or to the monitoring of their behavior if it takes place in the Union. Mastering the principles of the GDPR therefore becomes essential for any business interacting with people residing within the Union.
A substantial part of the forthcoming University Degree on Data Privacy Laws and New Technology will be dedicated to the GDPR ; the first part of this seminar will give a brief overview of how the GDPR works.
A second part of the Degree will be dedicated to the hot topic of New Technologies and the challenges they create in the legal field. Techs such as artificial intelligence, Big Data or blockchains are increasingly used in varying fields while the Law is often lagging behind: lawyers and legislators are still struggling to understand those technologies but also their full potential and the extent to which they should be regulated. The second part of the seminar will be dedicated to an overview of some of those technologies and the challenges they represent from a legal perspective.
