AI is reshaping industries, from healthcare to finance, but its rapid development raises pressing ethical and legal concerns. This lecture will explore key challenges, including algorithmic bias, transparency, accountability, and the protection of privacy and human rights. As AI systems increasingly influence decision-making—whether in medical diagnoses, credit scoring, or law enforcement—ensuring fairness and mitigating harm become critical.
We will examine real-world cases where AI has led to unintended consequences, emphasizing the need for ethical frameworks, regulatory oversight, and corporate responsibility. The discussion will also address the tension between innovation and compliance, exploring strategies for balancing technological advancement with ethical safeguards. Special focus will be placed on AI’s role in sensitive industries, where the consequences of biased or opaque decision-making can be severe.
By the end of the lecture, participants will have a deeper understanding of AI’s ethical and legal risks and the responsibilities of developers, policymakers, and businesses in promoting responsible AI use.
