Gain critical insights into the complex and developing US AI regulatory landscape, focusing on federal initiatives, state legislation, and sector-specific approaches that impact legal practice across jurisdictions.

This focused, 3-hour workshop is designed to equip legal practitioners with essential knowledge about the emerging US AI regulatory framework. Unlike the EU’s comprehensive AI Act, the US approach to AI regulation is characterized by a patchwork of federal initiatives, state legislation, and sector-specific regulations. The Trump administration’s recent “Removing Barriers” Executive Order” signals a shift toward more permissive federal AI regulation, while states like Colorado and California are implementing comprehensive AI legislation with extraterritorial effects.

This workshop will provide a thorough overview of the current US AI regulatory landscape, focusing on key definitions, compliance obligations, and enforcement mechanisms. Participants will explore how existing laws are being applied to AI technologies and learn strategies for navigating the complex interplay between federal guidance and state-level requirements. By the workshop’s conclusion, attendees will be better equipped to advise clients on compliance strategies in this rapidly evolving regulatory environment, ensuring they can effectively manage legal risks while supporting innovation.
