Mauritius Campus: AI Insights from Judge Moutou-Leckning

We were honoured to welcome Judge Moutou-leckning Johan of the Supreme Court of Mauritius for a thought-provoking talk on how Artificial Intelligence is reshaping the legal world.

Her presentation offered our students a clear and structured overview of the global landscape of AI regulation — including recent developments in Europe and Asia — and highlighted how policymakers are addressing questions of safety, ethics and governance.

Judge Moutou-Leckning also shared valuable reflections on the evolving role of lawyers in an AI-enabled environment. Beyond learning how to use new technologies, tomorrow’s practitioners will be expected to bring what machines cannot: strategic insight, sound judgment, and a deeply human approach to decision-making.

For our students, this session served as a reminder that responsible and critical use of AI can strengthen legal reasoning and enhance professional practice, rather than compete with it.

We extend our sincere thanks to Judge Moutou-Leckning for her openness, her expertise, and the inspiring exchange she offered to our community.
