LL.M. International Business Law students embarked on an educational and cultural excursion to one of Paris’s most iconic landmarks, the Panthéon. Situated in the Latin Quarter, this monumental mausoleum provided the students with an immersive experience into French history and heritage. The students were happy to explore the grand structure that stands as a testament to France’s illustrious past.
The guide showed them the architectural splendour of the Panthéon and its significance as a resting place for many of France’s esteemed figures. She explained the Panthéon’s neoclassical design, inspired by the Roman Pantheon. The students admired the massive dome and Corinthian columns, which symbolize the pinnacle of 18th-century architectural achievement, as well as the frescoes by Puvis de Chavanne representing the life of Sainte Geneviève, the patron saint of Paris. They were also impressed by the Foucault pendulum which demonstrates the rotation of Earth.
One of the highlights of the visit was the crypt, where some of France’s most famous figures are buried including Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo, or Marie Curie. The guide told stories of their contributions to science, literature, and philosophy, emphasizing the profound impact these individuals had on the world.
